Hospitality is all about creating an experience. Put yourself in your guest’s shoes in order to make a stay or an event a great success and rely on your professional knowledge and skills in the field of management, organisation and e-commerce.
The sector
Leisure is big business; from visit to a festival to spending a nice weekend at a luxury hotel. The tourism and recreation sector is a 82-billion-euro industry in The Netherlands. Last year more dan 19 million foreign tourists visited The Netherlands, and this number will increase in the years to come. The Netherlands is also the leading nation in Europe when it comes to the number of conventions hosted here. Websites such as Booking.com have created a strong demand for professionals with knowledge of e-commerce. In other words, this is a sector with plenty of future potential!
BA in 3 or 4 years
The Hotel and Event Management programme educates you for the professional competence level in Hotel Management in three or four years. The Hotel school degree allows you to use the internationally acknowledged title of Bachelor of Arts (BA). Also, you can earn your Associate degree for this programme in just 2 years.
Small classes
You attend theoretical lectures in groups of no more than circa 16 students, while practical lectures are given to groups of 10. The weighted average for the Hotel school programme at all Tio locations during the previous academic year was 12 students per group.
Interesting projects
During the project Hotel and event week, you run your own hotel together with your fellow students. You also take part in the Event week, during which you and your team are tasked to come up with a concept for a business. Lastly, you play the simulation game, write a business plan and go on an international study trip.

Best Hotel School
This programme has been accredited by the NVAO and was awarded the title of the Netherlands’ best private hotel school for the 7th year in a row by the Higher Education Guide. The programme has also been awarded top marks in the National Student Survey (NSE) for past 9 years and in Elsevier’s “Best study courses” enquiry, the programme ranks high for several years.

Diploma
This Hotel and Event Management bachelor’s degree has been accredited by the NVAO and educates students in three or four years for the professional competence level in Hotel Management (ISAT-code: 34118). This degree allows students to use the internationally recognised title of Bachelor of Arts (BA). Also, you can earn your Associate degree in just 2 years.

Employment Opportunities
Revenue in the hotel and catering industry has been increasing for over 6 years. That means employment opportunities have also been growing. The hotel and catering sector has one of the happiest professional groups in the Netherlands, so this is definitely a great industry to work in (source: HotelloTOP).
There are many roads open to you when you earn your Hotel and Event Management bachelor’s degree. What about working as an event manager at Tomorrowland (ID&T) or as a banqueting manager at the Hotel Sofitel Legend The Grand. You can also work as a hotel manager or organiser of conferences.
Toelatingseisen
In order to be admitted to this bachelor’s programme, you need 3 documents:
- You need a high school diploma that is equivalent to a Dutch pre-university high school diploma.
- In addition, you need an English test, which proves your English proficiency is at (or exceeds) the level of CEFR: ≥ B2. Tio accepts one of the following three qualifications as proof of English proficiency: TOEFL: iBT ≥ 80 points (taken at an official examination centre), IELTS academic: ≥ 6.0 overall, or Cambridge exam: ≥ 160 points or a Cambridge First Certificate.
In the following cases, students are exempted from the test requirement: students with an IB diploma, American High School Diploma (if accredited in the US, please check with your school board), GCSE certificate for English First Language or English as a second language, or students from the following countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Malta, Singapore. - Valid passport (non-EU/EEA) or IC (EU).
Once you are able to provide the above 3 documents and after approval of Tio, you are all set!
Kosten
Tuition fee per year: € 22.250,-
Enrollment fee (one-off): € 95,-
The tuition fee includes the cost of study materials, the study trip and projects.
