Over deze opleiding
The CEDLA Master's Programme Latin America Studies lasts 12 months (60 ECTS) and is connected to the CEDLA research programme. Students spend three months in Latin America for field research.
The programme offers a multi-disciplinary education in Latin America Studies. It familiarises students with the most important developments in the region, as well as the different theories and research debates about the causes and meanings of those developments, and the necessary methodologies to carry out academic research. It provides students with the opportunity of doing independent research in Latin America. Building upon their previous education and geared to their future plans, students can specialise in themes that are of particular interest to them through their choice of courses and research projects.
The programme focuses on the changes in Latin American societies as a result of the fundamental adjustments that, since the 1980s in particular, have taken place in their political and economic systems. These changes have been the result of a deeper integration of the respective countries in international markets, the new international economic and political contexts, as well as the political and social processes that have taken place in these societies, partly in reaction to these changes and partly as independent processes at the local, regional or national level.
