Over deze opleiding

Global History and International Studies

Discover the relationship between the great global changes from the 15th century until the present and the flows of people, goods, ideas and knowledge.

The MA History programme Global History and International Studies focusses on how the circulation of people, goods and ideas across the globe developed over time and shaped today's world. Courses deal with a range of subjects: the “Great Divergence” between China and Europe, unfree labour in a global perspective, the circulation of racial theories and global migrations. In specialised courses you learn from our experts. The choice of subject for your master's thesis is free.

The History department of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam has a long tradition in teaching and researching global relations and international history. Special areas of attention are economic, political and postcolonial relations between the West and the other parts of the world – including Africa and Asia. We also focus on the relations between Europe and the US in the wider context of the Atlantic world and the global impact of changes in Asia and China.

The Vrije Universiteit is located in Amsterdam. Studying in Amsterdam is a unique experience. The urban setting and the multicultural mind-set of the people, combined with the presence of a thriving cultural city life give your education a special dimension.
